Celebrex (Celecoxib) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug
(NSAID) known as a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Celecoxib is used to treat the pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis and
rheumatoid arthritis. It also treats other acute pain as well as menstrual pain and to decrease growths found in the intestines (colon polyps). This drug works by blocking the enzyme in the
body that makes prostaglandins, decreasing prostaglandins helps to reduce pain and swelling.

Precautions Before Taking Celebrex or Celecoxib New studies suggest that Celebrex can increase the risk of heart attacks, additionally, some
medications may interact with Celebrex. Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are taking fluconazole or lithium, water pills (diuretics such as furosemide,
hydrochlorothiazide or triamterene), high blood pressure medicines (ACE inhibitors such as
captopril and lisinopril), corticosteroids such as prednisone, "blood thinners" such as warfarin,
other NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen, or other COX-2 inhibitors such as rofecoxib or
valdecoxib. Do not take Celebrex if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a sulfonamide
antibiotic (such as sulfamethoxazole or sulfisoxazole or Co-trimoxazole (Bactrim).
